If you hold a doctoral degree (PhD) from a foreign university, you must, if you have not already done so, request the equivalence of this degree with a Belgian doctoral degree in the same field*.

This equivalence will be delivered by the University** during the selection procedure after evaluation by the Equivalence Commission emanating from the Doctoral Commission of the field.

In order to do so, each candidate must, as soon as he or she is shortlisted (i.e. as soon as he or she is invited to an audition by the selection committee), send to his or her president.

• A copy of an identity document or any other official document showing the name, first name, date and place of birth, and nationality of the applicant;
• A certified copy of the doctoral degree; A copy of the doctoral thesis or its abstract;
• If English or French is not the language of writing, provide an abstract in English or French of minimum 5 pages.

*Unless the field does not (yet) exist in Belgium, in which case the procedure for level recognition will be specific.
**Or the French Community of Belgium, if it is a recognition of the level.
